Role Overview:

The Transportation Consultant will have to plan and implement strategies, services, and programs that will improve transportation access.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in negotiations for the implementation of strategies, services and programs to improve transportation access.
  • Create, establish and maintain operational processes at building sites designed to reduce commuter trips.
  • Analyze data and provide appropriate tracking and evaluation mechanisms.
  • Provide periodic reviews of processes and results and recommend changes that may be needed to reach project goals.
  • Maintain documentation of decisions and agreements, and records of correspondence and expenditures.
  • Writing clear reports and presenting options and recommendations on transport systems.
  • Forming potential solutions to transport problems.
  • Developing initial design ideas for new or improved transport infrastructure.
  • Using mathematical and computer simulation models to forecast the effects of road improvements, policy changes and/or public transport schemes.
  • Evaluating the benefits and costs of different strategies.
  • Assessing infrastructure requirements (access, car parking, bus stops, cycle parking, etc) of new developments.
  • Planning applications or to inform local authority development plans.
  • Liaising and negotiating with different parties, e.g. planning and highways authorities, residents’ groups, developers and transport providers

Required Experience:

 3 to 5 yearsof experience in public policy, transportation planning, urban planning or related field.

Transportation planning experience with experience/knowledge of transportation demand management.

 Required Skills/ Knowledge:

  • Numeracy skills and the ability to interpret data.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills – finding a range of solutions, understanding their effects and making recommendations.
  • Confidence in dealing with a range of people including clients, councillors, local groups and the general public.
  • The ability to communicate complex ideas and issues clearly and accurately, often to a non-technical audience.
  • Project management skills.
  • The ability to work as part of a team.

Required Qualification:

  • Master degree with subjects which include Land-use Planning Transportation Policy, Public Transport Operations.
  • Qualified as a Transport Planning Professional, TPP, awarded jointly by the Society and the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, CIHT.
  • Having an engineering degree, Chartered Engineer (CEng) or an accredited degree in town planning membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
